Hello classmates!
Today I'll talk about one of my favorite countries: Brazil.
I had the pleasure of visiting this summer and fell in love with their culture,
their food, the beaches, the friendly people and their whole perspective on
life.
Brazil is the largest country in Latin America, with a
population of over 198 million people. Just Sao Paolo has more population than
entire Chile.
It is a federal republic, a form of government very
different from Chile, but very similar to other countries like Mexico or the
U.S., where political organization are states, where each has its own laws and
its own congress. Like us, Brazil has a female president. Her name is Dilma
Rousseff and has been active since 2011.
Despite belonging to the 5 biggest countries in the world
and having the most powerful economic region with a much higher GDP, Brazil presents
a serious social problema. It has a high rate of unemployment, poverty and
illiteracy. One of the biggest problems that has been facing the nation, is
crime both in the streets and in the slums.
Despite these social problems, the Brazilian government has
decided to invest huge amounts of money for the completion of the "world cup". This reminds me of the
Roman civilization, where gladiators competed in the arena to entertain citizens. To me, that’s repeated until today: "Bread and
Circus".
And I do not care about the World Cup, I hope Bosnia wins,
LOL.
See you in a future post.
